A note from Rex Foundation Executive Director Cameron Sears:

Today, the news arrived that our dear friend Herbie Greene had left his mortal coil. Herbie possessed an infectious love of the Grateful Dead.

Taking photographs of the band was a true passion for Herbie. Despite all the chaos that typically occurs at a photo shoot with the Dead, he remained undeterred in his quest to get the best shot possible. Herbie’s specialty was posed photos. When shooting the band, he was lucky to maintain their attention for twenty minutes, and when the session was over, he looked like he had run a marathon. However, his love for them and the music kept him coming back. Fortunately, the images he was able to get will always remind us of his immense talent.

Herbie was also a devoted supporter of the Rex Foundation. When he learned we were holding an event, he always called me first, wanting to donate a piece before I had time to pick up the phone and ask him if he could. Occasionally, I beat him to the punch, and without hesitation, he always said yes. We will miss him, his generosity, and his boundless energy, and we remain grateful for all the time we shared with him. May the four winds blow him safely home.
