Paradise Waits December 6
Grateful Shred at The Fillmore
On Saturday, December 6, 2025, we will gather at The Fillmore in San Francisco for an evening of celebration and lively music. This year, it feels especially meaningful to reconnect with our roots and honor our founders. We will celebrate the music they created and the shared vision behind the founding of the Rex Foundation.
Saying there’s been an exponential rise in musicians embracing the legacy of the Grateful Dead is an understatement. These musicians not only enjoy the music but also understand the importance of community and giving back.
One band that stands out among the many recent additions to the scene is Grateful Shred. Like the Dead, their sound continues to evolve. Also, like the Dead, they enjoy exploring and, most importantly, interpreting the songs and sounds of the original artists. Breathing new life into songs that served as the soundtrack to many of our lives is no easy task. However, when you listen to Grateful Shred, you will hear the vitality and soulfulness in what they do.
If you’re not yet familiar with Grateful Shred, check out their performance of “Lay Down Sally” at Pioneertown last fall, or their video collaboration of “Cassidy,” directed by Justin Kreutzmann, to get a sense of the magic they’re creating.
If you know Holly Bowling, you know her solo piano take on the Dead’s music is something special. She brings a whole new feel to songs we’ve all heard a thousand times, and hearing her as part of this celebration at the Fillmore will be unforgettable.
We’re affectionately calling this gathering a Dance Party, in honor of how the early shows at The Fillmore were described. This band knows how to get the boogie going! We need a chance to unleash that energy, get nourished, and feel revitalized. We’ve often discussed the healing power of music, and it’s clear that we all could use a good dose of this medicine right now.
We will host a pre-show reception with an exciting menu and delicious wines from Silver Oak, Twomey, and Sixteen 600 Wineries. Grateful Shred will perform two sets, and a silent auction featuring art, memorabilia, and unique, enjoyable experiences will also take place.
A Rex benefit has always served two main purposes: to raise funds for worthy non-profits and to celebrate with great music and camaraderie. This promises to be a fantastic night filled with all the elements that make our annual benefit special: great music, food, drinks, and most importantly, you. We look forward to seeing everyone on December 6, at The Fillmore!
