For many years now, Rex has presented the Bill Graham Award in memory of our founding board member Bill Graham, who we still miss following his untimely passing in 1991.  And we often get the question from those who came along later, who WAS Bill Graham?

Entire books have been written about Bill, his life, and his work, but you might want to start with Bill’s own memoir, Bill Graham Presents: My Life Inside Rock and Out.

We’re also delighted to share this recently unearthed video, first seen on KRON in San Francisco in 1991, as several of Bill’s friends tried to come to terms with his loss and share his legacy. Here’s Mickey Hart’s tale of the Dead’s trip to Egypt, and Bill playing a role in it all:
