2018 REX FOUNDATION GRANTEE
Founded in 1989, the San Francisco Choral Society is the largest auditioned chorus in the San Francisco Bay Area. Inspired by the joy of learning and singing choral music, the San Francisco Choral Society strives to be a premier symphonic chorus through outstanding performance of choral masterpieces and new commissioned works. Infused with a commitment to excellence and education, SFCS’s professional artistic and administrative staff, soloists, and orchestras work collaboratively with its auditioned singers to foster a vibrant, diverse, and interactive choral community, educate singers and audiences, and extend the Society’s reach to youth.
SFCS’s vision for offering free concert tickets to the youth of our community is to introduce them to choral music and inspire in them a life-enriching appreciation for the choral arts, and the Rex Foundation grant will allow them to continue this program, and reach even more of the community. Says SFCS: “Perhaps some of the young people will be inspired to cultivate their own musical inclinations and join our chorus through our music scholar apprenticeship program!”
