2023 REX FOUNDATION GRANTEE
Musicambia brings music learning and ensemble performance to prisons throughout the United States. Through working closely with incarcerated individuals on performance, music theory, ear training and composition, our professional musicians build artistic communities that nurture the humanity of all involved.In addition to our flagship program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility that meets biweekly, we have additional programs throughout the country. This season our program reached over 5,000 incarcerated men and women located at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Bedford Hills, New York, San Quentin in San Francisco, California and Lansing Correctional in Kansas.The musical work we do in prisons is extremely important but it is only the beginning. A journey with music is lifelong and we are finding new ways to help our alumni expand this journey after their reentry into society. Throughout the year we offer paid opportunities for our alumni to perform alongside our faculty for their families and our extended Musicambia family.
