All Stars Project of the San Francisco Bay Area
2008 JERRY GARCIA AWARD
The All Stars Project of the San Francisco Bay Area (ASP of SF Bay Area) brings innovative, performance-based development opportunities to youth throughout the Bay Area’s poorest neighborhoods. All Stars’ after-school programs support young people to grow as leaders and builders of their communities and to see new possibilities for their lives.
ASP of SF was launched in Oakland in 2002 and expanded into San Francisco in 2008. The All Stars has since reached thousands of young people across the San Francisco Bay Area, including East and West Oakland, Visitacion Valley, Bayview/Hunters Point, the Mission, Daly City, Fremont and San Jose. By using performance as a tool for growth, All Stars provides young people the opportunity to develop as learners and performers, onstage and off.
In memory of Grateful Dead guitarist and founding Rex board member Jerry Garcia, this award is designed to honor and support individuals and groups that work to encourage creativity in young people.
