We just heard from David Young of Atlanta-based Grateful Dead tribute band The Warlocks, who played a nice fundraiser for us last year. This year they collected lots of food for the local food bank, and also did a little fundraising for Rex. We’re delighted by their kind hearts and generous spirits, and we’ll put the money to good use. Thanks so much!
Here’s David’s report on the evening:
This was the 4th annual benefit show that our band, The Warlocks: A Tribute to the Grateful Dead, performed at here in Atlanta. Â Last night, we collected about 200 pounds of food and some cash donations to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
In addition, we sold Dead Head stickers, incense, glow sticks, bubbles, and a few buttons and stickers from YOU folks, for the specific purpose of sending that particular collection to the Rex Foundation.
Please accept it with our highest regards, and we hope to send you some more money when we play our next benefit show. Â It will be in December at a club called Java Monkey, which will also be a benefit for Toys for Tots (admission to the show will be an unwrapped toy).
Our philosophy about this band is that we’re not really making any money with it, so we might as well have fun and do some good for the greater community!
For the record, here is our set list from last night, and I’m attaching our “official” band photo.
