On Friday, April 20th, the Sacramento Kings and Maloof Family once again provided a special occasion to pay tribute to the Grateful Dead and generously support the Rex Foundation. At the pre-game gathering, Bill Walton orchestrated fun storytelling with Carolyn Garcia and Dennis McNally about experiences with the Grateful Dead over the years. Susana Millman provided a great slide show of concert and behind-the-scenes photographs, along with her own anecdotes. Attendees were treated not only to the storytelling, but also the special event t-shirt, a CD from the Road Trips series, Dennis McNally’s book A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead, and a poster by Stanley Mouse originally designed for Moonalice, customized just for this event.
At half-time of the exciting game between the Sacramento Kings and Oklahoma City Thunder, Sandy Sohcot, along with Bill, Carolyn, Dennis and Susana, had the honor of accepting the two $5,000 checks donated to the Rex Foundation by the Sacramento Kings and Maloof Family. Bill Walton offered rousing remarks about the Rex Foundation, bringing cheers from the crowd that filled the arena.
The Rex Foundation is honored and deeply appreciative. We extend heartfelt thanks to all the fans who attended the “Long Live the Dead” event and the following people for making this event possible:
