Bolinas Stinson Summer Camp

View All Articles in: Grantee Stories

drumming at campThe goal of the camp is to provide all local West Marin children with equal access to memorable summer camp experiences. Although camp fees are kept to a third the cost of similar camps, many area families are unable to pay even part. Therefore, tuition assistance is offered to all qualified families who wish to attend.

Music instructors are drummers who fully understand the intertwined nature of rhythm, culture, childhood and community. By offering children the opportunity to experience and express music together in camp, over time the community as a whole will share and benefit from a collective memory that promotes cooperation, respect and a sense of larger purpose.
Each day, kids participate in many activities including learning indigenous skills, games and sports, canoeing and kayaking; bike-riding and hiking in state and national parks; art; marine science and other nature studies; swimming and games on the beach; theater; dance and aerial arts; organic farming and natural food preparation; and camping and backpacking. Instructors are professionals in their fields (art, science, education) during non-camp months.
