For almost 30 years, Wildlife Associates has taken living, non-releaseable wild animals, along with trained naturalist educators, into Bay Area classrooms, to engage children in respect for the natural world and foster a regard for the interconnectedness of all living beings. Their programs fit the state standards for science education, a woefully neglected area in these “teach-to-the-english-and-math-tests’ days. Wildlife Associates makes 1,000 presentations to 300,000 students each year, 50% of which are low-income. The Rex grant will enable Wildlife Associates to sponsor 3000 students from low-income schools.
