Mentors take kids on outings, camping trips and just “hang out” with kids who need nurturing.
Committed Partners for Youth acts as a clearing house and training center for volunteers who want to mentor various segments of the at-risk youth population in the Eugene area. They work with at-risk and troubled middle school students. In addition, CPY works closely with the juvenile justice program, and targets kids aged 6-17 with one or more incarcerated parents. The mentors take kids on outings, camping trips, have monthly meetings and just “hang out” with kids who need nurturing and adult life models. The mission of CPY is to connect youth to their community through mentors who inspire and motivate youth and families towards personal growth, healthy relationships and meaningful opportunities.
Youth are matched with caring volunteer adults who are trained to focus on positive reinforcement, trust-building, and the achievement of goals, by engaging youth in one-on-one outings and group adventures in the community. Four cornerstones form the basis of each mentoring relationship: Commitment, Responsibility, Possibility & Support. CPY was identified as a beneficiary of the September 25, 2009 Portland Black Tie Dye Ball.
