Rhode Island musician and Deadhead Philippe Vezina recently lost a dear friend, Mark Calo. As a tribute to Mark, Philippe has organized a concert this Saturday, October 10, as a tribute to Mark and a fundraiser for the Rex Foundation.
Philippe writes: “I have been a supporter of the Rex Foundation since the late 1980s as a result of my Grateful Dead connections. I feel it is an excellent charity that year after year makes a difference in the challenging world that we live in today.
“I have organized a memorial benefit for a fellow musician who was a very close friend of mine and who unfortunately took his own life this past February. The memorial benefit is for charity and when all is said and done, whatever proceeds we collect for the benefit show will be donated to the Rex Foundation in my friend’s name (his name was Mark Calo). Everything is being donated for this benefit evening (food, etc.); all monies collected on this evening will be donated to Rex.
“The benefit is this Saturday night, October 10, and all details can be found at the temporary Web site that I’ve set up for the event.
“Although this event won’t bring in the money that your other ‘Caravan’ events do, I just wanted to let you know that the Rex Foundation is on my radar and I still support it in any way possible. My friend Mark who passed away (much like me) was a huge Deadhead and musician and I know he would be pleased to know that this show’s proceeds will be donated to you.
Thank you, and keep up the good work!
Our condolences to Philippe on the loss of his friend Mark. We’re very honored that he chose to honor Mark by helping Rex.
