The goal of Operation Migration is to re-establish a naturally migrating and self-sustaining population of North American Whooping Cranes, by imprinting young cranes to follow ultralight aircraft to lead them in their first migrations from Canada and Wisconsin to winter quarters on a reserve in Florida.
They have already had success with flocks returning North on their own and leading their own wild-hatched chicks the following year.
